streaks light it up in first home match of the season
It's good to be back at Oakwood.
After starting the season with 2 away matches and an away tournament, the Warren Hills bowling teams finally got a chance to show what they can do at their home house, and they most certainly did not disappoint.
The girls were great up and down the lineup, despite missing regular starter Senior Elizabeth Hudock due to illness. Scoring was led by Senior Jenna Henderson's second 600 series of the young season (631) and Freshman Kelcie Mannon's first high school 600 (607). Senior Jessica Yerance made it six straight games over 170 with her very solid 557 and Junior Katie Winch had season high with a 224 single and a 574 set. Junior Jacquelyn Nesbeth chipped in her season high series as well (405). And senior Kala Hopkins set career highs with a 202 game and a 539 series. All told, the Blue Streak girls shot a team series of 2908, which is a total only one girls team in the state of New Jersey has beaten all season, at any venue.
Not to be outdone, the Warren Hills boys provided plenty of fireworks of their own. Junior Max Rothstein shot back-to-back games over 180 in his first varsity action. Senior Jake Irwin posted a big 225 single. Junior Eric Lawson scored a consistent 580. Freshman Ryan Monahan broke out in a big way. Coming off three tough appearances to start his high school career, Ryan put in a very solid week of practice and it paid off nicely with a 201-224-198=623. And then there were the anchors.
Senior Darryl Price and Junior Avante Wilson each anchored a set of three bowlers and each came up huge, pasting the pocket all day and not shooting a game under 213. Darryl carded 221-237-213=671, while Avante shot a high school career-best 234-234-216=684. Add it all up and the Blue Streak boys put up 1031-1109-1000=3140, a total only the very best teams in New Jersey can match.
The season marches on with two more away matches next week, both at Stelton Lanes in Piscataway. The Streaks will face second-place (boys and girls) Franklin on Tuesday and Bridgewater-Raritan on Thursday in the last action before the winter break.
