STREAKS DOMINATE BOYS NORTH 2 SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT
The Warren Hills boys walked into the North 2 Sectional Tournament as the defending champions, the #19 team in New Jersey, and the favorites to win Group III again. The pressure of expectations didn't seem to bother them one bit; by the end of the tournament, the Streaks had not only won their second consecutive North 2, Group III championship by 173 pins over the field, but they had also scored, by the same margin, the highest total of any team in the entire sectional, a field that included #9 Montville, and they did it without any one bowler going particularly nuts; this was a true team effort by what's become an outstanding team.
The Streaks got off to a fast start in game one, firing 985 behind Junior Eric Lawson's big 257 game, and Senior Jake Irwin's 221. The Streaks had a 92-pin lead over Scotch Plains after that game; it would never get any closer. The second game was outstanding: Junior Avante Wilson carded a 203 game, Jake came back with his second big game of the day, 225, and Senior Darryl Price posted his highest game of the season, 259, which would prove to be the 3rd highest game bowled in the entire sectional. Warren Hills' game two total was 1040, a score that no other team in the building would equal.
Things slowed down a bit in game three, though Eric managed a 211 game that gave him a 659 set, which would earn him 5th place in the individual standings. The Streaks, however, had one un-fired bullet: Freshman Ryan Monahan. Ryan shook off a tough first two games to fire six consecutive strikes and finish with a 241 game, helping his team to a 999 game and a huge 3024 set.
Eric (5th) and Darryl (10th) earned spots in the Individual Tournament of Champions at Bowlero on February 15th by virtue of their series (659 & 646) falling in the top twelve, while Jake's season-high 635 set was an agonizing 2 pins behind the cutline. The boys' performance earns Warren Hills a berth in the State Tournament of Champions on Friday, February 17, where they will match up against some of the very best teams in the state, with a shot at a state title on the line. It's gonna be a long two weeks.
