streaks survive stelton (again), defeat franklin
The boys came back from an exciting first game tie to put up another big series, while the girls put up solid numbers in a comfortable win.
Game 1 on the boys' side was a barnburner. The Streaks, led by Senior Darryl Price's 242, put up a nice 988 game, but Franklin's Darian LeMay threw three straight clutch strikes in the 10th to earn Franklin a tie, the first point the Streaks have surrendered all year. They wouldn't give up another today, blasting 1017 and 1076 the final two games for a 6-1 win.
Junior Eric Lawson, fighting for the conference average lead, fired three very good games: 215-217-222:654. Senior Jake Irwin finished his day with a nice 224, coming just 1 pin short of his first 600 on the season. Junior Avante Wilson (222) and Freshman Ryan Monahan (206-218) each topped 200 to help the cause. Darryl used his big first game to finish at 614. And Junior Max Rothstein came back from a tough start to shoot a huge 232 in the final game. Since joining the lineup, Max has averaged over 176.
In the end, the boys totaled 3081, another impressive series that should have them moving up the rankings.
The girls struggled a bit to live up their usual high standards, and while no one bowler really lit it up, the days when you can post solid scores without your best stuff are valuable, too. Senior Jessica Yerance led the team with 179-171-211=561, continuing the roll she's been on. Senior Jenna Henderson (201) and Freshman Kelcie Mannon (203, 206) chipped in 200 games, and Junior Katie Winch just missed in the final game (199). The 2629 team series will only bring their average down a bit, but only 3 other teams in New Jersey average higher.
Back to Stelton on Thursday, for the last time this season. This time the Streaks will face Bridgewater-Raritan in the last match of 2016.
